Polly Krumbhaar Lewis is best known for her animal portraits and scenes of nature. Her work combines the loose flowing lines only achievable in watercolor with high precision brush work that draws the eye to details. Her engaging compositions highlight the best features of watercolor as a medium.Polly has been working in watercolor since her time at Moore College of Art (class of 1979). Her early career was focused on illustration, with clients ranging from the children’s magazines Jack and Jill and Humpty Dumpty to the publications of the Philadelphia Zoo (ZOO ONE) and Philadelphia Academy of Natural Sciences (Academy Frontiers). The influence of natural history illustration has remained strong, and her current work remains centered on scenes from the natural world.Polly was born in the suburbs of Philadelphia, on the Main Line, where she still lives, works, and tries to surround herself with the natural beauty that inspires her paintings. She has been a signature member of the Philadelphia Water Color Society (PWCS) since 2004.
